Travel Sketches by Jakob Klemencic
Instead of doing normal and useful things, Jakob Klemencic (b.1968) has been unhealthily obsessed by a need to tell stories by means of pictures since his childhood. From about age 25 onwards, he's been drawing comics (mostly short stories) more or less regularly. At about that time, he started developing the sketchbook-keeping habit, which only blossoms fully when he travels - beside the most obvious reason, visual stimulation of the new , he simply feels less self-conscious in a place where nobody knows him.
The following selection of his travel
sketches shows some of his usual subjects: railways (he's
virtually incapable to do any longer comic story without
depicting or mentioning trains ), sculptures of all types
and sizes (they stay still), slightly outdated (but not
really old in a venerable way) architecture, stuffed exotic
animals (in his hometown, Ljubljana, the choice of these
in public collections is not exactly abundant) etc.
