Think Tank
Sketchbook drawings by Damien Jay

These drawings are a sampling of pages from my sketchooks dating from about the summer of 2002 to the present.

One general use for sketchbooks is to draw from life as an exercise. I don't really do this, at least not in these sketchbooks. They are a little too thick and unwieldy for use in the field (see below). Instead, I used them to try to save random thoughts and ideas. I think my thoughts and ideas fall into four loose categories: stolen, borrowed, modified, and invented. And the purpose of the sketchbook is to reguritate them until they migrate from the former categories into the latter.

Just under half the life of Damien Jay has transpired in the borough of Brooklyn. There he tries to think of new shapes and sizes and colors for his mini-comics. Hopefully, the coming year or so will produce a colletion of adaptations of folk tales in comics form. For some samples of his comics, check out: www.damienjay.com
